In the dark of night, families were faced with frantic and desperate situations as the water rose around them, overwhelming them. A train of thunderstorms had stacked over Knott County Kentucky and pounded the hills and valleys. The torrent of rain rushed off the hills to the streams, and the creek-beds could not contain it. Homes and businesses were engulfed with floodwater and still the rain poured.
