Since 1981, the annual "Gingerbread Festival" has been held in Hindman. Gingerbread is a distinctive mountain food baked by generations of Knott Countians and was an important election tradition as candidates would hire the county's best bakers to distribute their delectable goods on Election Day to "encourage" people to vote.
